You may have noticed over the past week that both here and at the home of the Screen God I have been valiantly attempting to catch up with posts. And having done so I have come to the awful realisation that I haven’t finished a book since 11 April (end of the read-a-thon.)
That’s over a month ago (yes I know, stating the obvious but that’s my thing, OK?)
So I got to thinking about why that is, and there are a couple of obvious things that spring to mind:
- my morning commute is currently taking place at a time when I have to stand, making the reading of books difficult (for me, clumsy woman with poor balance and lack of natural grace) and then
- work is still really really busy despite the ending of a major project, and
- although my evening commute allows me to sit down my concentration is entirely shot by then and I’m tired, which inevitably leads to
- vegetating in front of the TV when I get home and falling asleep before my head hits the pillow (neither conducive to reading) and all of this means that
- my weekends are spent catching up with loads of other stuff
And much as I’m reluctant to say so, I just can’t get into my current read, so there’s no incentive to even try.
So going to permit myself to ignore challenges and just find something interesting to read, even if I have to open every book in this house – and believe me, that’s saying a lot.

Good for you! I’ve been having some of the same problems, though related to moving rather than work, and I’m trying not to fret too much about it.

Thanks Jenny, nice to know it’s not just me. I spent this morning dipping in and out of books and have a found a couple that have grabbed my attention so fingers crossed for more reading this week!

What was it that you were originally trying to slog through? I need to know so I can either be glad it’s not my TBR list, or so I can dread reading it. 😉

The thing is it shouldn’t be a slog – it’s Making Money by Terry Pratchett and I should be enjoying it as it has everything I like. Maybe I’m just not in the mood for anything amusing at the moment??

I’ve certainly been there before, many, many times in my life. I am grateful that I haven’t hit a reading slump thus far this year, but they inevitably happen. The nice thing about it is that they never last forever. Usually some book comes along that ‘wow’s’ me and gets me out of it. I hope that happens for you soon.

I know that feeling well. Reading slumps are always surprisingly disturbing. “What is the matter with me if I can’t even READ?!?”
Hope you catch up on rest soon and find something fun to read! I suggest something super-duper light and cozy. My go-to is The Enchanted April. 🙂

Reading slump. I read one book between April 16 and May 16! One book! I thought it was me, but maybe something is going around….I have the same problem as you, changed my hours at work, now have to stand most mornings going into work, lunch is busy, and I grab 15 mins on the way home and that’s IT! so I made myself read this weekend – turned off the tv and read for more than 1/2 at at time. Fingers crossed things get easier for you, and *hug* because I know how you feel. Are you at least able to watch the new Dr Who? or see the Fringe season finale? I’ve watched that so many times……email me if you want?
