“So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all?
Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!”
I tend to shy away from resolutions as I am normally so poor at keeping them, but I have been thinking a lot about my reading recently, having hit a bit of a lull. So plans for this year:
- Complete the challenges I’ve signed up for while being honest about the ones I’m not going to make and stepping back from those without feeling guilty (not sure that makes sense…)
- Read more of my collection of sixteenth century history books (I love this period so much and have a huge backlog)
- If I do nothing else I must read Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates.
Happy New Year!

I joined many challenges too. I know what you mean about putting aside the guilt. I felt guilty not finishing some in 2008, but I realize now it’s okay if I don’t complete some. Good luck with your challenges!

I just read Blonde…and, um, most of it was really painful. There were about 150 pages I enjoyed. But the rest just wasn’t my cup of tea. I hope you enjoy it more!

Good luck with the challenges. I haven’t even decided which ones I’m doing yet (trying not to take on too many).

Thanks for the supportive comments everyone
Eva – I’ve quite a pile of JCO to read and Blonde is the one I’ve had the longest so it seemed a good place to start in clearing the backlog. It’s interesting to hear your view, and I’ll be sure to post on this one whatever the outcome!

I like your resolutions; the second one sounds very interesting.
Never really been a fan of Marilyn Monroe, but have toyed with the idea of reading Blonde. I think it’s in ‘1001 Books to Read Before You Die’. Look forward to reading your review, if you get around to it in 2009.
Happy New Year 🙂

What sixteenth century books do you have to read? Now that I’ve been in London again, I really want to read 1599 A Year in the LIfe of William Shakespeare.
