So what’s been happening since my last post?
I am reading significantly more than I have been for ages, and although I haven’t finished any books so far this year I’m feeling very positive about it all. Hoping to finish either the Jack the Ripper book or the Chinese sci-fi novel, and absolutely must finish The Troop as I will hopefully be attending the Horror Book Club to discuss it this coming Thursday. So far so creepy, haven’t got to the gruesome body horror stuff yet. Ideal read for commuting 🙂
The big thing for me this week was deciding to start studying again for my own pleasure and to get my brain working. My great love is 16th century history so that’s where I’m headed, starting with Anne Boleyn and how she has been perceived by succeeding generations. I will be tracking all of this over on my other blog if you are interested.
I’m still sticking to my intention not to buy any books though I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of All the Birds in the Sky from the publisher to read and review, so that will be my next mission. Sounds wonderful so really looking forward to it.
And of course it’s my birthday at the end of the month so I’ve constructed yet another present list for the Book God to choose from. There might be some books involved there, watch this space……

I haven’t finished a book in over a month, so don’t feel bad. But then I have to remember as my wife always reminds me some people don’t even read ONE book a year. That said, I have started one book: Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, but I think I might give it a rest and read something else for now. It’s not that it’s bad; it’s just that I’m not sure if it’s what I’m in the mood for right now.

I’m actually feeling OK about not finishing anything because I know I’m going to, so that always helps 🙂

I just finished a piece of Chinese science fiction called Cat Country yesterday. Not quite sure what I think of it yet. I think I enjoyed it. I was surprised by how many of the references to China I understood. I’m far from an expert.

The on I’m reading is The Three Body Problem which I’m really enjoying. My husband is very interested in Chinese history so I just throw references at him for explanation 🙂

Ugh, I haven’t been reading anything. I am in a disastrous reading slump, and I can’t deny it any longer. I am reading an Edwidge Danticat YA novel, which I’m hoping maybe can pull me out of it? But I do not hold out very strong hopes.

I hated my reading slump last year, it was so awful and I felt adrift. Sorry that you’re in that place 😦

I have read 5 books so far, but last week was less impressive than the first week of the year.
IMO…enjoying our books is the most important thing. Thanks for sharing…and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

I am a firm believer in libraries so I rarely buy books. For some reason library books don’t stress me out if I don’t get a chance to read them like the ones I buy. Good luck with your resolve.

I have not finished a single book so far this year. Life keeps popping up and getting in my way. Sigh.
