So it’s September tomorrow and that means the start of one of my favourite blogging event’s, Carl’s RIP VIII and the opportunity to read scary and thrilling stuff along with lots of other members of the book blogging community.
As is traditional I have pulled together a book list out of which I hope to be able to meet Peril the Second, where I need to read four books that fit the description of perilous. I’d love to be able to read them all, but we’ll see how that goes.
My list is (in no particular order):
- London Falling by Paul Cornell
- NOS4R2 by Joe Hill
- Horowitz Horror by Anthony Horowitz
- Bryant & May and the Memory of Blood by Christopher Fowler
- The Night Eternal by Guillermo del Toro & Chuck Hogan
- Nocturnes by John Connolly
- Through Dead Eyes by Chris Priestley
- Mayhem by Sarah Pinborough
- Drood by Dan Simmons
- The Accursed by Joyce Carol Oates
A pretty good selection I think, and I’m looking forward to all of them.
I may also take part in Peril on the Screen but no real plans on what that might involve, though it is really about time I re-watched one of my Desert Island Films, Son of Frankenstein with *sigh* Basil Rathbone.

I just checked and NOS4R2 is not out in softcover until October! I have it marked in Amazon now 🙂 You have to read the novella in Nocturnes, the one with Charlie Parker – that is such a creepy novella, and so very good. Mayhem sounds fabulous! Never heard of it, you are so good at finding good creepy/scary books, so I am hoping my library has this one :-). I have Drood on my shelf…I want to get to it, whether I will or not depends on whether I can immerse myself in a big book right now. So much happening in my personal life that I’m not always able to settle down into it. Have a lovely challenge, Bride! I hope you get to read them all, and love each of them!

Hi Susan, I’ll be reading NOS4R2 on my iPad but Drood is an enormous monster of a paperback! I’m doing a lot of parallel reading these days so Drood may be my bedside book. Which may not be such a good idea but let’s see. I must go and have a look at your list!

I am up to The Night Eternal myself. I really should get around to finishing that trilogy! Enjoy your reading!

Nocturnes is one of the best supernatural anthologies I’ve ever read. John Connolly is such a class act. I’m another Drood fan, seems you either love it, or not. I loved it to bits.

Cath, really looking forward to Nocturnes, have heard only good things about it. Just over halfway through Drood and thoroughly enjoying it.

I want to read NOS4R2 too, but can’t seem to get my hands on it! I happen to have Drood by Dan Simmons, too, and might read it for the challenge. The list sounds intriguing!

Hi, just found your blog through the RIP Challenge. The name caught my eye – it’s so fun. I just finished listening to The Accursed. I have mixed feelings on that one. Loved N0S4A2 and I also love Dan Simmons. I’m looking forward to reading some of your reviews.
