It’s that time of year again and I have really been looking forward to Once Upon A Time, but as always it’s choosing exactly what to read that’s the problem.
I’m plumping for Quest the First (as I did last year) and will be reading five fantasy works from the following pool:
- Court of the Air by Stephen Hunt
- The Song of Kali by Dan Simmons
- The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson
- Hrolf Kraki’s Saga by Poul Anderson
- The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint
- The Onion Girl by Charles de Lint
- Here There Be Dragons by James Owen
- White Apples by Jonathan Carroll
- Aegypt by John Crowley
- The Book of the New Sun by Gene Wolfe
- Fevre Dream by George Martin
- Shadowmarch by Tad Williams

I forgot about White Apples. I’ve had a copy of that forever and haven’t read it. I really should, I always enjoy Carroll.
I’ve heard good things about Court of the Air, I really should pick up a copy.
So happy to have you in again this year!

I have the first three books of the Book of the New Sun, but my pile was getting a bit ridiculous by then. I’m doing Quest the First as well. 🙂

Aegypt! I really want to read that, despite the monstrous size. Excellent list.

Wow, great list! And much smaller and more manageable (read likely to actually all be read!) than mine 😀 i really want to read those Poul Anderson books, I’ve been looking for copies for years now. I’ve read the Dan Simmons – his earliest book, I believe – and I’ve read The Onion Girl, and we share The Blue Girl to read on this challenge. Race you! lol I still haven’t read any John Crowley, I keep meaning to pick up Little, Big….I’m looking forward to your reviews!
Oh – I saw the movie version of ‘Invite the Right One In’ last night – I really want to read the book now. Interesting movie, very Swedish (not much music playing, lots of snow, graphic blood scenes) – and I liked it. thanks for that review long ago! + the vampire one now to try to find by him.

PS just read the synopsis of Court of the Air through your link. That’s another one added to my TBR list! It looks really good. Bad Blogger points to you! 😀

Thanks all for the encouraging comments. I wanted a manageable list because things are so busy at work I didn’t need the added stress of somthing I couldn’t stick to!
Susan – really jealous you’ve seen the film, it comes out here spoon and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m always happy to accept Bad Blogger points!
